About Pete

I was born in Canada in 1951, and was raised in the European Alps of Austria, Bavaria and Switzerland. At the age of 14, I was brought back to the Canadian West Coast after my parents divorced. By the age of 23, I had completed a year of college, heavy duty mechanics and heavy equipment operator’s apprenticeship, as well as a class “C” welding ticket. I repaired and operated longshore equipment on the Vancouver waterfront and later worked as a computer head checker for them. I worked on the docks of Vancouver for 40 years and retired at age 63. I chose to retire in Christina Lake, British Columbia.

Artistic Development

I am a self-taught artist and have experimented with many different styles and mediums since I was very young. I made pencil and ink drawings, oil and watercolour paintings, and acrylic and enamel murals on walls and vehicles, using various different techniques with airbrushes and knives.

Inspiration

I’ve travelled around the world over the years and took a lot of photos of many different subjects. Abandoned buildings, vehicles and boats have always fascinated me. I took a lot of photos of these subjects specifically. I combine various different photographs of buildings, boats, and scenery to create my paintings. Of late, most of my work is oil on canvas with brushes and knives. At this time I am not accepting any consignment work, but will continue to make more paintings of this series. The collection of photos I’m using for this are all from my travels.
